Travel manuscript, fifth volume

Fifth volume of Forbes's manuscript travel journal, beginning in February of 1797 with Forbes's departure from Rome to Florence. Includes descriptions of sites visiting while en route, including Aquapendente, Radicofani, and Sienna. Entries describe Forbes's stay in Florence and its monuments and art, including an entry on "Italian music." Journal also contains descriptions of the journey from Florence to Genoa, and along the Ligurian coast. One entry is devoted to the "French Revolution, its consequences in Italy." Finally, the journal contains entries on the voyage from Genoa back to England on 19 February 1797. Journal contains an addenda added in 1799. Manuscript is written on laid paper, bound in half leather with marbled covered boards.

Manuscript of extracts from book by George Vancouver

File contains manuscript (incomplete) by Captain George Vancouver, with correspondence from Henri Masson. The manuscript is titled, "Abridgement of part of a Voyage of Discovery round the World by Captain Vancouver Performed in the years 1790, 1791, 1792, 1793, & 1794 by order of his Majesty Regarding the North West Coast of America." Apparently copied by Duncan McGillivray, whose initials appear at the bottom of the Memorandum (page 2). This document is comprised of extracts of the original work titled, "A voyage of discovery to the North Pacific Ocean and round the world," published in 1798.

Grant and Laframboise letter book loose leaves

File consists of manuscript leaves previously bound with MSG 432-4, a letter book of correspondence signed alternately William Grant, William Grant & Co., Grant & Laframboise, or C. Laframboise. Leaves are of laid paper written in a variety of hands. Addressees of letters include Augustin Choteau, Stanbridge & Tagg, Brickwood & Daniell, John Blackwood, and McTavish, Fraser, & Co. Some letters include goods (for example, types of furs) and calculations. Dates of letters range from August 1798 to March 1800.

Grant and Laframboise letter book, 1800-1801

File consists of a bound manuscript letter book, missing preliminary leaves found in MSG 432-3. The letter book contains copies of correspondence signed alternately William Grant, William Grant & Co., Grant & Laframboise, or C. Laframboise. Leaves are of laid paper written in a variety of hands. Addressees of letters include Blackwood & Patterson, John Lean & Co., Brickwood & Daniell, and Thomas Coffin. Some letters include goods (for example, types of furs) and calculations. Dates of letters range from March 1800 to August 1801. The letter book was used also as a scrapbook, with transfer of ink and residue of printed pages stuck to leaves and four final leaves at end of letter book containing cut-out images pasted in. Two leaves towards the end contain accounting information and another two leaves contain a recipe for ginger beer, a poem, and a remedy for curing diseases of fruit and forest trees.

Letterbook

File contains a series of outgoing correspondence written by James McGill between 1802-1807. Several documents also feature the signature of Isaac Todd. These letters were sent to, among others:
