Scope and content

File consists of a bound manuscript letter book, missing preliminary leaves found in MSG 432-3. The letter book contains copies of correspondence signed alternately William Grant, William Grant & Co., Grant & Laframboise, or C. Laframboise. Leaves are of laid paper written in a variety of hands. Addressees of letters include Blackwood & Patterson, John Lean & Co., Brickwood & Daniell, and Thomas Coffin. Some letters include goods (for example, types of furs) and calculations. Dates of letters range from March 1800 to August 1801. The letter book was used also as a scrapbook, with transfer of ink and residue of printed pages stuck to leaves and four final leaves at end of letter book containing cut-out images pasted in. Two leaves towards the end contain accounting information and another two leaves contain a recipe for ginger beer, a poem, and a remedy for curing diseases of fruit and forest trees.
