Letter to William Henry Welch from Henry Phipps. He offers to the JHH the funds necessary for the erection and equipment of a psychiatric hospital on its grounds. He will provide funds for the maintenance and the professorship for ten years from the time of the opening. He would like them to admit in priority patients from Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York, cities where he is associated. Hopes that the clinic may serve as an example of what such institution should be, and be a stimulus to the establishment of similar hospitals.
