Biographical history

George Alexander Louis Lebour was born in 1847, in St. Homer, France.

He was an English geologist and author. He was educated at the Royal School of Mines, London, and was a staff member of the Geological Survey from 1873 to 1876. In 1876, he became a lecturer in geological surveying at the Durham College of Science and held this position until his death in 1918. He wrote, "Handbook to the Geology and Natural History of Northumberland and Durham" (1879). He was the author of more than 100 papers on carboniferous geology, the thermal conductivity of rocks, and underground temperature. He was awarded the Murchison Medal in 1904.

In 1870, he married Emily Nona Hodding (1847–1937). He died on February 21, 1918, in Hexham, Northumberland. England.
