    Biographical history

Charles Solomon Shultz was born on August 11, 1839, in Middletown, Connecticut.

He was a banker and businessman. He grew up on his father's farm in Rhode Hall, New Jersey, and after the day's work of manual labour, he studied in the evenings. He served as the President of the Hoboken Savings Bank for forty years. Shultz was the senior partner and founder of Charles S. Shultz & Son, a building material firm in Hudson county. He was one of the organizers of the Montclair Essex Trust Company and served on the board of directors. Shultz was also president of the New Jersey Savings Bank Association, the New York Building Material Exchange, and the New York Microscopical Society.

In 1868, he married Lucy Murell Budd (1844–1905). He died on September 24, 1924, in Montclair, Essex, New Jersey.
