    Biographical history

    Edward Alexander Prentice was born on April 14, 1832, in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.

    He was an investment banker and financial agent. Educated in Edinburgh, he started to work at the Royal Bank of Scotland. In 1854, he moved to Montreal, Quebec, where he entered the Bank of Montreal. In 1864, he became the head of the Mercantile and Exchange Bank agency in Montreal. He became a prominent member of the Stock Exchange. He negotiated important sales of real estate and mining properties and a large Government loan in 1875. He was a founder of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Montreal. In 1872, he was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Around 1876 he moved to England, where he got interested in the channel tunnel between England and France.

    In 1856, he married Eweretta Jane Auldjo (1830–1898). He died on November 17, 1886, in London, England.
