John Hutchison Ferguson was born on September 20, 1846, in Montreal, Quebec.
He was the last seigneur of Métis, Quebec, and an acting officer of customs. In the 1890s, he wrote his "Old Times in Métis, Recollections of the Late Seigneur of Métis". This brief memoir is the best source of information about life in Métis in the 19th century. He lived in the Manor House by the bay on Lighthouse Road and an inlet off the St. Lawrence River is known as Ferguson Bay.
He died on July 8, 1920, in Métis, Rimouski, Quebec.
Letter from J.H. Ferguson to John William Dawson, written from Metis.
