Rev. Albert Jehiel Pineo was born on November 13, 1855, in Medford, Kings, Nova Scotia.
He was an educator, clergyman, editor, and amateur naturalist. He graduated from the University of Acadia College (B.A., 1881; M.A., 1893). For a while, he worked as an editor of Canadian Science Monthly. In 1893, he moved to Victoria, B.C., to become a teacher at Victoria High School, a position he held until 1911. Then he became a professor at Camosun College and served as Minister of First Unitarian Church, Vancouver, B.C. He was a member of the Nova Scotian Institute of Science.
In 1882, he married Elizabeth Stearns Masters (1859–1917). He died on July 28, 1933, in Alberni, British Columbia.
