Daniel Andrew Budge was born on April 16, 1851, in Newmarket, Ontario.
He was a General Secretary of the Montreal Y.M.C.A. from 1874 until 1913. His vision and zeal laid the foundation for the Young Men's Christian Association in Montreal and influenced the extension of the movement throughout the world. During World War I, he played a large part in organization and operation of the Red Triangle activities in England and France. In 1937, the Montreal Central Y.M.C.A. on Drummond street renamed its Association Hall the D. A. Budge Memorial Hall in his honour.
In 1876, he married Annie Margaret Watson (1852–1931). He died on February 13, 1933, in Montreal, Quebec.
