Elizabeth Caroline Orkney was born on September 18, 1820, in Montreal, Quebec.
She was a generous benefactor of the Montreal General Hospital, the Verdun Asylum, the Boys' Home, and other Montreal charitable institutions. She was one of the founders of the Art Association of Montreal in 1860. In 1877, her uncle Benaiah Gibb (1798-1977) of Gibb & Co. Ltd. not only donated the core of his art collection, but he also bequeathed a building site on the northeast corner of Phillips Square in downtown Montreal, as well as the sum of $8000.
She died on June 17, 1906, in Montreal, Quebec.
