Correspondence relating to Nobbs' activities as a professor of architecture at McGill University (1904-1940) and details of his subsequent pension arrangements, as well as the honourary Doctor of Letters awarded him by McGill in 1957. Bernard James Harrington

The series consists chiefly of the personal and professional correspondence of Bernard J. Harrington. Family correspondence covers the period from 1862-1907. Professional correspondence and records stem largely from Harrington's scientific and university work and covers the period from 1871 to 1903. The majority of the letters fall between 1878 and 1884. The professional letters chiefly concern mining questions, and there are numerous requests for Harrington to analyse mineral samples. The correspondents include mining companies and private individuals, technical schools, and officers of the Geological Survey, particularly its Director, George Selwyn. There are also numerous letters from Harrington's closest student, Frank Dawson Adams, concerning his studies and subsequent work for the Geological Survey. Some of Harrington's geological work is presented in publications and reprints in files 45-64. Harrington's role as university teacher is represented by a small collection of printed ephemera from university festivals, sports days and Glee Club concerts. The series also contains some family documents such as deeds. Biographical information prepared by Lois Winslow-Spragge about the Harrington family is found in file 065.

Case histories, mitral stenosis

This series consists of case history files of patients with mitral stenosis. Like most other patient files of the fonds, almost all of these files contain heart sounds diagrams drawn by Dr. Segall, 6x12" clinical history forms, sections of electrocardiograms attached to dated cards, as well as 4x6" normal heart sounds record forms completed by Dr. Segall which are often accompanied by sections of electrocardiogram readings. Many files also contain correspondence between Dr. Segall and other doctors, medical institutions, and health insurance companies, and occasionally correspondence between Dr. Segall and the patient and/or the patient's family.

Teaching.

Materials relating to James' teaching career fall into two chronological categories, the Wharton period and the McGill period. The Wharton period is illustrated by office files (1927-1939) containing incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports and memoranda concerning the administration of the school and professional matters. There are also lecture notes for James' courses in finance (1926-1927), money and credit (1924-1949), theory of money and banking (ca 1939), statistics, and life insurance. The McGill material comprises lecture notes for introductory economics (1944-1949), together with some worked examination papers and approximately 15 cm of correspondence regarding the course, as well as James' relations with Québec economic groups; there are also lecture notes for a course in economic history (1940, 1954-1959).

Visual items and Reference Material, 1927-1959

Series D consists of photographs, postcards, slides, x-rays, and other visual material and artifacts such as copper printing plates. The visual material is located within other series, particularly the Correspondence Series A, but described individually here.
