Snapshots of Newfoundland and Labrador

The album contains black and white and sepia photographs and other ephemera of the compiler's voyage to St. Anthony and stay at the Grenfell Mission. In particular, there are a number of photographs of Indian Harbour, Labrador, as well as one including Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell on a boat. The bulk of the photographs are dated between June and November 1923, with some from 1924 and many undated. A series of photographs depict the compiler's travels around the Labrador and Newfoundland region by boat during August and September of 1923, with a map of the route followed. Overall. the photographs depict many scenes of landscapes, coastlines, boats, and local scenes in places such as St. Anthony and Orange Bay. Dog sleds are the subject of many of photographs. Staff members at the Grenfell Mission feature frequently and are named in captions, including Miss McPherson, Miss Klein, Major Phillips, Ruth Major, the Grenfells, and Dr. Curtis (possibly Dr. Charles Samuel Curtis, 1887-1963). In addition to photographs, there are clippings tipped in related to the mission, some postcards (including five colour postcards featuring Inuit and Innu people), and one refund cheque from the Bank of Montreal for a codfish.
