Helen Kermott Penfield correspondence

This series contains correspondence between Helen Kermott Penfield and Wilder Graves Penfield, as well as other friends and family between 1920 and 1932.

History of medicine research

This series consists of notes and collected documents related to Dr. Segall's History of medicine research. This material includes records related to his various history research projects including his N.S. Korotkov book (1980), "Pioneers of Cardiology," material concerning the Osler Library of the History of Medicine, and correspondence with other medical historians.

Series consists primarily of records related to Royal Victoria Hospital department of cardiac surgery, medical board, employees, and directors. Also contains records related to Royal Edward Chest Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Queen Mary Veterans Hospital, Ships' Pilots examinations, Department of Veterans Affairs, Institute of Cardiology, Jewish General Hospital, and records related to serving a legal expert in trials.

Series contains invoices from various Montreal merchants, notably printers and grocers.

Items added later

Series consists of letters, photographs, and other textual records added by E. B. Worthington after the original donation of materials in series 1, 3, and 4 in 1944 to expand the holdings, bringing the collection dates up into the 1940s.

Series consists of items originally attached to scrapbook page, including a number of newspaper clippings related to the Boer War and the election campaign of 1906 between Laurier and Borden.

Jefferson Lewis

This series contains notes, drafts, research files, and correspondence pertaining to the funding, research, writing, and publication of Something Hidden and its spin-off film concerning Dr. Penfield’s life and work. This series is divided into four subseries: correspondence, research files, manuscript drafts, and memorabilia. The bulk of this section is various drafts of Something Hidden. Some primary material of the Penfields is interfiled with material in this series, presumably consulted in the preparation and editing of various portions of the manuscript.

John P. McGovern Lecture

Series consists of three subseries containing records generated by the John P. McGovern Lecture, which was established in 1986 through the endowment of the John P. McGovern Foundation. The lectureship makes possible an annual presentation of a paper dedicated to the general areas of Sir William Osler’s interests in the interface between the humanities and the sciences. The lectureship is awarded to a leader who is selected by a committee of the American Osler Society. The records include the records of the John P. McGovern Lecture Committee (P125/H1); documents regarding the annual lecture (P125/H2); the published pamphlets of the lectures and textual materials generated during the preparation of the edited volume Our lords, the sick: McGovern Lectures in the history of medicine and medical humanism (2004) (P125/H3). Series includes correspondence of the secretary-treasurer with John P. McGovern, guidelines of the committee, programs, press release, and newspaper clippings.
