File includes twelve documents plus bill of lading to Mackenzie, Oldham & Co. These business letters discuss importing and exporting of read, flour, molasses, sugar, rum, beef, etc., and trade with the West Indies. There is some mention of the conflict between Canada and the U.S. and how it affected business.

Letters to Mackenzie, Oldham & Co.

Includes four letters sent to Mackenzie, Oldham & Co. The first letter requests that the Quebec merchants Burns & Woolsey hire a vessel for trade with Newfoundland. The second mentions waiting for the boat and articles paid by Caldwell, Fraser & Co. The third relates to the proper form of the certificates for half the pay of Capt. Osborne and Lieut. Fraser. The fourth relates to the contract for flour and mentions John Well(e)s who has just arrived with information that the Treaty of Trade & Commerce between Great Britain and the United States had been signed in London on Dec. 31st.

The first letter mentions getting 500 barrels of flour for Angus Shaw's posts and 100 barrels for themselves and discusses the possible hiring or purchase of the Desire (N.W. & Co. ship) by Mackenzie, Oldham & Co. The second letter mentions that Mr. Shaw wants to know whether they will be needing one of the vessels belonging to the King's Posts to bring down the flour.

Contains draft letters and kept copies regarding a series of court rulings between Roderick Mackenzie and a committee of creditors. File includes: draft of lettersent to Mr. John Reeves with copies to J. R. Rolland and Wm. Walker from Roderick Mackenzie; two drafts of letters to J. R. Rolland and William Walker from Roderick Mackenzie on business concerns; kept copy of a circular letter from the trustees of the estate; an unsigned draft of a letter sent by Roderick Mackenzie in answer to the circular; an unsigned and undated document titled "Abstract of the Instrument sent out from London to be signed by the creditors of McTavish MGy & Co. McGillivrays Thain & Co. the late Wm. McGillivray & Simon McGillivray."

File includes a letter addressed to Mackenzie, Oldham & Co. Letter concerns a shipment of flour being unloaded from the Desire which was smaller than originally requested. Asks if the 400 barrels for the N.E. Department are ready.

Manuscript of extracts from book by George Vancouver

File contains manuscript (incomplete) by Captain George Vancouver, with correspondence from Henri Masson. The manuscript is titled, "Abridgement of part of a Voyage of Discovery round the World by Captain Vancouver Performed in the years 1790, 1791, 1792, 1793, & 1794 by order of his Majesty Regarding the North West Coast of America." Apparently copied by Duncan McGillivray, whose initials appear at the bottom of the Memorandum (page 2). This document is comprised of extracts of the original work titled, "A voyage of discovery to the North Pacific Ocean and round the world," published in 1798.

Sermons by D.A. de Sola, Meldola de Sola & Others

File consists of original handwritten sermons by David Aaron de Sola, Abraham de Sola and Aaron David Meldola de Sola, Including the following by D.A. de Sola: "A sermon of the Excellence of the Holy Law and the Necessity and Importance of Religious Instruction Delivered at the Synagogue of the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation in London, 26th March, 1831" and "A Sermon Delivered at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, Beavis Marks on Wednesday, 7th Nlssan (24th March), 5607 [1847],". By Meldola de Sola: "The Duty of Orthodox Congregations A Sermon Preached before the Congregation "Shearlth Israel," New York, in the Synagogue, West Nineteenth Street, On Sabbath Shemoth, Tebeth 23rd 5648, January 7,1888," and "Zionism A Sermon Delivered by the Rev. Meldola de Sola of Montreal, on the seventh day of Passover 5660," [1900]. One sermon Is typed, "A Good Name Sermon delivered Heshvan 20th (Nov. 14th) 5669 in the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue Montreal by Rabbi de Sola (Saturday, November 14, 1908).

Correspondence, Abraham de Sola

File consists of original correspondence with Abraham de Sola. There Is also de Sola's fire insurance policy (1849). Most of Abraham de Sola's correspondence is related to his position as Reverend at Shearith Israel (Montreal) but also includes a letter from Abraham de Sola's mother to his father who had been in Amsterdam on business (dated Tuesday, August 13, 1833) and a page with messages and signatures of the children to their father, D. de Sola.
