The entrance gates of this residence at Sunnyside Avenue, Westmount show the pillar and its cresting stone work together with iron detail of the garden stair. --“It is especially interesting to consider this method of exterior beautification while our thoughts turn to every department of building. Many otherwise fine architectural exceptions are betrayed in execution by treatment of incidental fixtures. Cast iron has its place, but, in well-carried out construction, can no more take the place of the wrought metal than an imitation can replace the genuine jewel.” --“Wrought Iron Completes the Setting: Some Varying Treatments,” Canadian Homes and Gardens 3 (January 1926) : 16-17. --
