Scope and content

This file contains legal and financial documents related to James Morrison's dealings in Quebec, Ontario, and England for the period between roughly 1750 and 1850. Include invoices and receipts, bills of sale and accounts, a power of attorney, and other documents. The majority of the documents are related to Morrison's professional dealings as a merchant, with a few that document his household expenses. Two of the documents attest to the purchase of enslaved Black people by Morrison, while another includes the purchase of shoes for an unnamed enslaved woman in Morrison's household. Documents are arranged in chronological order.
