In Suburban Community Planning, Percy Nobbs describes the community building scheme for this project as being able to provide advantages in the following areas: Prospect, Aspect, Heat Losses, Professional Services, Responsible Builder, Amenities, Gardens, Garages, Lanes, Community Land, Central Heating and Economy in construction. As to the houses; “In the Queen Mary’s Garden project a general uniformity of character is aimed at by the scale of the structures, the types of windows and woodwork, and similarity of roof material. The individuality of the several groups of houses is dependent on variations, within limits, of the roof form and the walling. The general types of the house proposed are based more or less upon the old French tradition in the Province – a thoroughly acclimatized style - but the layout and equipment are essentially modern. “ (P. E. Nobbs, Suburban Community Planning, McGill University Publications, Series XIV [Art and Architecture] no. 7. [Montreal: McGill University, 1926], 12-14.)
