Shepherd believes that Osler once wrote to him about the death of Mills, a Professor of Physiology at McGill. He describes the course in clinical medicine and microscope that Osler taught during the summer session. He writes of the medical services Osler and others rendered at the Hotel at Tadoussac and for the Governor General, Lord Dufferin, and his family.

Osler understands Shepherd's misgivings about taking the Demonstratorship at McGill, but urges him to accept the position. Letter to Francis John Shepherd from William Osler, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Osler inquires after Shepherd's plans for the remainder of his stay in Europe. He informs Shepherd that there is talk of the Dean [of the Medical Faculty of McGill?] resigning, and Osler sees no reason why Shepherd should not take his place. Letter to Francis John Shepherd from William Osler, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Osler writes to inform Shepherd that at the recent meeting of the Faculty of Medicine of McGill, Shepherd was appointed Demonstrator of Anatomy. Osler recommends some courses in London and Vienna that Shepherd should attend before his appointment in August. He suggests that Shepherd take a course on the Microscope with Klein at the Brown Institute. Dr. Campbell has resigned as the chair of Surgery at McGill, but remains as Dean of the Faculty. Fenwick has succeeded Campbell, and Roddick has been appointed to Chemical Surgery.
