        General note

Painted panel executed by Nobbs and presented by him to the McGill University Union.

        General note

In a letter to Dr. C.W. Colby dated April 13, 1925, Percy Nobbs describes his painting of Macdonald and Peterson as “nothing more than a cartoon or study for a decorative portrait panel, painted direct on the wall, in a difficult location between two windows.” --His intention for McGill to engage a portrait artist to create a painting more or less along the lines of his design had been, perhaps, misunderstood. Nobb’s letter to Dr. Colby relates to the occasion on Convocation Day, to celebrate the memory of Macdonald and Peterson with a formal ceremony, and the unveiling of the Memorial Panel in the Students Union. --
