Publications: Manuscripts, Typescripts and Printed

Sub-series C-1 consists of manuscripts, typed copies and printed versions of published articles written or co-authored by Dr. Cone. In some case only printed copies exist. This sub-series is comprised of 23 files (files no. 170 to 192).

Research (experiment) notebooks.

Sub-series A-2 contains experiment notebooks from the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, concerning the measurement of peroxidase activity of animal tissues, the activity of the “succinoxidase system” and the effects of redox indicator dyes on metabolism. Includes experiments related to the aerobic and anaerobic metabolism of glucose, lactate, pyruvate and succinate by slices of tumor tissues using manometric, analytical and isolation procedures. This sub-series comprises 29 files (files nos. 5 to 33), which are arranged chronologically.

Shadow puppets and shadow theatres

This subseries consists of shadow puppets, including many Chinese shadow puppets, Javanese rod puppets, Turkish shadow puppets, and a sheet of French "Ombre chinoises." It also contains a set of shadow puppets accompanied by the text of a play and backdrop.

Puppets

This subseries consists of a variety of puppets (string puppets, jumping jacks, rod puppets, glove puppets, etc.) representing many different countries and puppet-making techniques and traditions. Also contains a miniature Punch and Judy show toy and a French Cartelli puppet theater including frame, scenery, curtrain, proscenium, and some costumes.

Introduction to the literature of vertebrate zoology

This subseries consists of 11 volumes, correspondence files, and a box of notecards dated from 1921-1956 relating to Wood's publication “An Introduction to the Literature of Vertebrate Zoology” published in 1931 and collection development within the Emma Shearer Wood and Blacker Libraries at McGill University. The volumes and files contain correspondence, handwritten and typed annotated manuscripts, proof sheets, the publication, notecards listing recipients of the publication, prints, printed ephemera, clippings, financial and administrative records, book reviews, and McGill Library catalogue listings related to the works within “An Introduction to the Literature of Vertebrate Zoology.” Additional professional projects are also represented in the subseries including “Coloured Plates of the Birds of Ceylon,” the Passing of John III, and Wood’s translation of Benevenutus Grassus’ de Oculis.
There are 1313 incoming and outgoing correspondence letters, telegrams, and cards; the largest volume in the collection. The correspondents are located internationally and include public, academic, government, and army libraries; museums, clubs and societies, literary journals, publishers, etc.. Research (experiment) notebooks.

Sub-series A-3 contains experiment notebooks from the Montreal Neurological Institute, concerning experiments on brain swelling as a result of head injury and neurosurgery. Brain slices were examined to determine the effect of aerobic and anaerobic metabolism of electrolytes, pH, oxygen tension, narcotics and convulsants. Of special relevance is the experiment measuring the acetylcholine (Ach) content of cat and rat brains. This sub-series is comprised of 14 files (files nos. 34 to 47), which are arranged chronologically.

Miscellaneous Correspondence

Sub-series A-2 contains miscellaneous correspondence concerning a wide variety of medical topics, and dating, for the most part, in the 1930s-1940s. This sub-series is comprised of 28 files (files no. 72 to 99), which are arranged alphabetically. The records in each file are arranged in reverse chronological order.
