Permission to pass, 17 July 1769

Document created by Beamsly Gleazier, Commandant of Michilimackinac, granting safe passage to James Morrison and his crew of five men who were travelling by canoe from Michilimackinac to Montreal with a cargo of "peltry." Crew members listed are Jacques St. Andre, Louis Mayenar, Grand Masson, Jean Veine and a guide named LaClerc.

Power of attorney, 12 September 1771

Power of attorney endowing James Morrison with the right to collect debts owed to Thomas Woder (also spelled Wooder in this document) and John Blake, as well as to Holmes & Morrison. Woder and Blake sign the document as trustees of the estate of Holmes & Morrison.

Letter from John Antill to James Morrison. The letter mentions the arrival of the ships Mary Anne and Queen in Quebec City, requests that Morrison speak to Alex Henry about a sum of money, and discusses the illness of Gray and the possibility of Antill succeeding him should he die.

File contains part of Lord Noel Noel-Buxton's autobiography, entitled "Preamble." Includes several versions of the preamble, a number of short "biography notes" and quotes and limericks.

Novels, plays and poems :

Autograph manuscript of: Novels, plays and poems : written for the instruction of people of all ages by Sophia Elizabeth Burney, aged 13 years old.

Manuscript is written in cursive hand in brown ink on laid paper (horizontal chainlines with watermark visible in the fold). At the bottom of the title page is a dedication: "Humbly dedicated without permission to Mrs. d'Arblay" (the author's aunt, Fanny Burney d'Arblay). Page [24] contains a verse Address to the Readers. The manuscript is bound in its original contemporary brown paper wrappers (detached), with the manuscript title "Volume 1st" on the cover.

Manuscript contains a number of compositions, including, "The History of Blind Jack, A pathetic tale", "The Unlawful Marriage, A Tale", "Murder Prevented, A Comedy". "Murder Committed, A Tragedy", "The Adventures of a Boy", and "Pennsylvania, the Orphan of the Hovel. A Novel."

Bill of sale for a 25-year-old enslaved Black man named Cesar. He was sold to James Morrison by traffickers Jacob Thomas and John Fulton of Duchess County, New York. Witnessed by Asher Granger and H.C. McCord.
