General note

The naval training establishment CFB (Canadian Forces Base) Cornwallis was founded near Halifax as HMCS Cornwallis in 1942. The training establishment moved to its permanent home and officially commissioned in 1943. English-born architect Cecil Burgess designed many of its buildings between 1942 and 1944. After the formation of the Canadian Forces on February 1, 1968, the base was renamed CFB Cornwallis. The base was decommissioned in May of 1995.
