Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) Pavilion (lot C-479) (background) across from the United States of America Pavilion (foreground) The massive roof structure of the U.S.S.R Pavilion made it the largest of its kind ever constructed. The pavilion themed "In the Name of Man, for the Good of Man", consisted of two main storeys housing six sub-levels. The pavilion's first floor was lined with terraces on the north end taking advatage of the surrounding water. Exhibition areas were found on all levels portraying Soviet lifestyle both urban and rural, economic issues and art. Cosmos Hall located on the upper levels featured Soviet scientific and engineering achievements, focusing on space technology. Visitors enjoyed space travel simulations. A 600 seat central auditorium located on the first level displayed Soviet documentaries and fashion shows. An 1100 seat restaurant also located at ground level was one of Expo's most successful featuring a variety of food and drinks from the various republics of the Soviet Union. All sub-levels and terraces were connected by escalators and stairs. Rectangular volume with curved sloping roof. Structural steel with extruded aluminum glazed curtain wall and roof structure.
