René-Joseph Kimber was a respected physician; a member for Trois-Rivières in the House of Assembly during the 1810s and a legislative councilor. He was the son of René Kimber, a prominent merchant in Trois-Rivières and cousin to Timothee Kimber who was also a physician and political activist.
Donated by Dr. John Gale. The materials were given to Dr. Gale by a patient when he was a resident at Montreal General Hospital in the 1950s.
Fonds contains five leather bound handwritten notebooks (one cracked) by R. J. Kimber while he was a student at Edinburgh University circa, 1807-08. Notebooks are titled: notes on midwifery, 1808; notes on the practice of medicine #1, 1807(Dr. Gregory); notes on the practice of medicine #2, 1807; book of miscellanies, clinical lectures, 1807?; notes on surgery, 180?.
