Biographical history

Joseph Hadfield was born in 1759 in Bonchurch, England and died in 1851. Hadfield moved to America while in his youth. He was a cotton merchant and a personal friend of James McGill, and documented the commercial fur trade in Canada in the late 18th century.

File contains an account of the visit of Joseph Hadfield to the Niagara Falls and surrounding area. A description of the Falls is given. Hadfield outlines his activities and travels in the summer of 1785. Some physical description of the Great Lakes area is given.
