    Scope and content

Exterior view photograph. Japan Pavilion exterior (lot B-325). The fully demountable two storey Japan pavilion was inspired by ancient wood construction of northern Japan. The pavilion was designed to take users through a carefully orchestrated procession starting first at the highest level then descending through the exhibits to a restaurant and ending in the pavilion's splendid gardens. Escalators took visitors to the first exhibit themed "Life in Japan" where progress, and well as efficient use of land was the underlying message. The second section "Art in Japan" showcased Japanese art and handicraft tradition. "Industry in Japan" focused on the country's technological advances and its contribution to industrial machinery. The gardens featured traditional Japanese landscaping techniques. The restaurant boasted authentic Japanese cuisine served by staff adorned with kimonos and other traditional Japanese clothing. Four rectangular volumes Reinforced concrete columns with structural steel beams and joists. Gypsum board and wooden posts behind exposed concrete girders.
