Scope and content

Exterior view photograph. Jamaica Pavilion exterior (lot C-418). The design of the two storey Jamaica Pavilion was largely inspired by 18th and 19th century Jamaican Inns. The exhibits were themed "Tradition Inspires Tomorrow" and divided into three main sections; an outdoor patio, a refreshment area and the main exhibition area. The outdoor areas masterfully captured Jamaica's warm island spirit and murals of famous figures such as Henry Morgan and Admiral Nelson served as a backdrop to the area. Artifacts, portraying the island's rich history also adorned this public mingling space. The design of small thatched huts (adjacent to the main building block) were inspired by those found on Jamaican sugar plantations. These huts featured additional exhibitions of internationally known Jamaican products such as rum, cigars and coffee. Rectangular volume under a double-mansard roof. Wood columns and beams with concrete block, plywood panels and artificial coral finish. (S: 76' x 36' (+ huts) --- A: 4,452 sq. ft. --- H: 26' (+ varying heights of huts))
