J.E.C. Stringer was born in Northumberland, England. He was educated at Kings College, Newcastle, graduating in Engineering. He worked for Vickers-Armstrong in Newcastle during the 1950s. Stringer emigrated to Canada in 1967 and worked for Consolidated Bathhurst until 1975. J.E.C. Stringer died in 1977.
Stringer's formal employment was as a researcher in equipment. His own interests lay in the field of archaeology and dendrology. He designed equipment useful in archaeological field work.
The J.E.C. Stringer fonds contain extensive notes on tree ring sizes with sketches, statistics and some correspondence.
