Miscellaneous

Series consists of typescripts related to Expo 67 and records related to McGill's own Canadian centennial celebrations of 1967. Many of the typescripts are preview or planning documents, including write-ups of Expo 67 event planning and pavilions. There is also a list of participants and exhibitors compiled by the Department of Exhibitions, Canadian Corporation for the 1967 World Exhibition, and two library lists for periodicals and accessions. There are also two volumes of "The Story of Man and His World", in English, volume 1: May 17-July 31, 1968, and an unnumbered volume for June 12-September 1969.

Exhibition materials

Most of the items in this series are photographs, drawings, and paintings depicting largely historical events, including the participation of Black soldiers in the Canadian Legion, the First and Second World Wars, and the Wars of 1812 and 1837. Many pertain to the Dr. Gaspard Royal Canadian Legion Branch no. 50. The materials were chiefly used in an exhibition on Black experience in the Canadian military prepared by Roy States. There are also a number of items depicting Black community workers. The materials are primarily reproductions and clippings, though a few actual photographic prints are also present. Nearly all of the items have been mounted for display. In most cases, the item has been inserted with a piece of cardboard into a black plastic sleeve with a clear plastic window at the front. In a few cases, the item is mounted in a glass-fronted wooden frame. Some clippings and images are encased on detached album pages. The series also contains two flags.

Inuktitut language instruction cassettes

Series consists of audiocassettes and textbooks of beginner level Inuktitut language lessons. Included in the series is the textbook "Innutitut Kuujjuamiutitut (Fort Chimo dialect)," by C.D. Ellis and J. Patridge, and the corresponding audio cassettes; these comprise a course created for research and field personnel who plan to work in Arctic Quebec. Course instruction covers the Fort Chimo [now Kuujjuaq] dialect, and is an adaptation of S.T. Mallon’s Inuktitut publications; audiocassette lessons follow the textbook edition revised in 1977 with the collaboration of M. Aitchison, and published by the McGill University Centre for Northern Studies and Research in 1978. 5 master audiocassettes, recorded on both sides, contain complete lesson audio. 10 student audio cassettes, recorded on side A only, contain duplicates of master recordings. Also included in series is an introductory level textbook of Inuktitut as spoken in the Frobisher Bay [now Nunavik] region: "Inuktitut Phase One," by S.T. Mallon & Staff [of] Inuktitut Learning Services, Frobisher Bay N.W.T. (1974-1977), published by the Department of Education, Northwest Territories.
