The bulk of the papers relating to The Torch were stored in 4 boxes (X-ray film) two containing notes, drafts, source material and maps ( W/B 10-1)two containing correspondence regarding publication, and reviews, complimentary copies etc. (WIB 10-2). The MSS. as returned from the Publishers was tied in a bundle between sheets of corrugated cardboard, the front of which bore the holograph annotation: "Here lie so many thoughts that were budding, changing and growing into better and more mature thinking until the printer paralyzed froze, fixed what would in time have come to more pleasing maturity. It would have been great fun to do another draft but time is knocking on the study door.This is page proof, not Ms 1966."
