The fonds contains the majority of the drawings and papers of Montreal architect and landscape architect John Schreiber, who was a professor in the School of Architecture at McGill from 1953 to 1987. These documents constitute a rich treasure of original design work, expressed in draughtsmanship of great virtuosity. John Schreiber’s work is an example of the contribution to Canadian architecture and landscape architecture of a generation of Europeans who, leaving that war-shattered continent in the late forties and fifties, found an appreciative and fertile ground for their talents and ambitions in Canada. The two hundred and thirty four projects represented in the Schreiber fonds span half a century of work and are documented in more than four thousand plans and drawings, hundreds of photographs and close to six linear metres of textual files.

This subseries consists of many of Wood's major publications in various iterations such as manuscripts, typescripts, page proofs, and galley proofs. Additionally, this subseries contains other manuscripts, research notes, photographs, prints or illustrations, correspondence, book reviews, and other materials relating directly to Wood's research projects and publications. The material is dated from 1904-1942 but focuses predominantly from 1913- 1934. Much of the subseries is composed of bound volumes, some of which contain multiple record types, either bound or mounted within the volumes.
The research and writing projects focus on the following topics and geographic regions: ornithology, Fundus Oculi (1911-1934), Wood’s family history (1920-1940), South America (1920-1921), Fiji and Fiji Islands (1920-1931), fossil eggs (1923-1925), flowers and meadows in Switzerland (1924-1934), “An Introduction to the Literature of Vertebrate Zoology,” aviculture (1925-1928), New Zealand, medieval Persian manuscripts (1927-1934), Benevenutus Grassus’ de Oculis (1930), John III, Kashmir and North India (1921-1934), Ceylon (1925, 1928, 1934), "the Art of Falconry" (1938?-1942), and Ali ibn Isa (1935-1936).
Other contributors to some publications and manuscripts include Marjorie Fyfe, Alexander Wetmore, Wladimir Ivanow, Arthur William Head, Dr. Andreas Nell, W. J. Belcher, William C. Morgan, and Marion C. Tallmon.
This subseries also contains 145 incoming and outgoing pieces of correspondence including letters and notes. Some individuals addressed include Arthur William Head, Christopher Leggo, Lillian Bates, Elizabeth E. Abbott, Cora Raymond, Dr. Richmond, W. J. Belcher, C. S. Walis, Theodore Hamblin Ltd., James R. Slonaker, and R. R. Donnelley and Sons Co.. This subseries also includes photographs of Wood’s family, professional colleagues and friends, and research and publications.

"Architectural Drawings, 1910-45, 9835 drawings." The wide variety of projects designed or altered by Nobbs and Hyde include urban and rural domestic architecture, school architecture, ecclesiastical architecture, the University Club in Montreal, the Arts Building of the University of Alberta and numerous buildings for the Henry Birks and Sons company. Their extensive work for McGill University includes designs for the McCord Museum, an extension to the Redpath Library, the Pathology Building, proposals for gymnasiums and residences, the Pulp and Paper Research Institute and the Field House, Percival Molson Stadium.
"Other Drawings, 1912-51, 425 drawings." Included are designs for war memorial tablets and windows, furniture, gravestones and fittings. A large group of drawings contains designs for commemorative blocks for the Canadian Battlefields Memorials Commission. Also noteworthy are the designs for decorations executed for McGill University for the royal visits of 1939 and 1951.
"Photographs, 1910-40, 660 photographs." Photographs documenting various stages of projects include domestic, school and ecclesiastical architecture, the Arts Buildings of the University of Alberta, a Birks store in Saskatoon, and Montreal projects such as the Redpath Library extension, the Drummond Medical Building, the Royal Victoria College extension and alterations to the Erskine and American United Church.
"Specifications, 1918-38, 22 cm." The archive contains specifications for eleven projects including additions and alterations to a school in Trois Rivières, alterations to St. George's Church in Lennoxville, alterations to the Pulp and Paper Research Institute and alterations to the Birks store in Montreal.
"Correspondence, 1912-55, 50 cm." Twenty-one projects have correspondence. They include the University Club, a proposed War Memorial Museum in Regina, the Pulp and Paper Research Institute, the Royal Victoria College extension and the McGill decorations for the royal visits of 1939 and 1951.
"Clippings, 1915-28, 12 cm." Included are clippings for a proposal of a general scheme of future development for McGill University in 1920-3, an imperial war graves plot and domestic architecture projects.
"Notes, 1929-34, 9 cm." Three projects contain notes: the Henry Birks and Sons store in Calgary, alterations to the Château Richer Church, PQ and the Motor Building in Montreal.
"Trade Catalogues, 1922, 1 item." The 1922 alteration to the Pathology Building at McGill University includes a trade catalogue.
"Article, 1919, 1 item." A proposal for the development of Evangeline Park, Grand Pré, NS includes an article.

"Dessins architecturaux, 1910-1945, 9 835 dessins." This series consists of 14 scrapbook volumes and files of material collected by Wood that were of interest to him either professionally or personally, dated between 1887-1955, but predominately 1926-1941. The scrapbooks and files contain newspaper and periodical clippings, correspondence, printed ephemera, photographs, postcards, palm leaf manuscripts, prints, paintings and other artwork, manuscripts, bookplates, place cards, and textile badges. There are also a few items within the volumes relating to Wood’s research trips and minor writings.
Overall topics within the series include ornithology, Wood’s parrot John III, zoology, naturalists, current events (1927-1941), poems, politics and war, British culture and people, health, obituaries, education, tourism, science and medical research, McGill Library and other institution collections, bird sanctuaries, and bird, ancient, and medieval artwork.
Printed ephemera from Wood’s travels include invitations, programs, brochures, tickets, visitation membership cards, business cards, etc.. There are two volumes (1925-1932) with Saturday Evening Post articles written by Hal G. Evarts, Stewart E. White, David Newell, Bozeman Bulger, Lord William Percy, Donald R. Dickey, and others.
There are 63 incoming and outgoing correspondence, including letters, notes, cards and telegrams. Individuals addressed include Dr. Axel Munthe, Irving Thalberg, Major Allan Brooks, Edith Swan, William Beebe, Chester W. Davis, F. L. Struthers, Elizabeth E. Abbott, W. H. Poole, Thos. Cook and Son Ltd., Margaret E. Hibbard, National Audubon Society, Senator William E. Borah, Stuart Baker, T. S. Palmer, Samuel Casey Wood III, Alan Wood, E. E. Chambers, McGill University, C. F. Martin, George Perley, Emma Shearer Wood, and Wheldon and Wesley. Some topics discussed within correspondence include bird protection, ornithology, travel, holidays, politics, and a speaking event during World War One.

The series consists of records pertaining to Duncan’s published works and art work. The series contains four scrapbooks of clippings related to each of her published books: “You Can Live in An Apartment” (1939), “Here’s to Canada!” (1941), “Bluenose: A Portrait of Nova Scotia” (1942), and “Partner in Three Worlds” (1944). Duncan’s work as a writer is also represented by publishing contracts from houses in New York and London (1940-1946), a series of photographs and captions that were used in “Here’s to Canada,” and files of newspaper and magazine clippings of articles written by and about Duncan, including a feature that she wrote about Gabrielle Roy. Duncan’s work as an artist is documented by files of clippings and contracts with art galleries. There is also a list of Duncan’s paintings included in one of the notebooks in Series 5 Notebooks and Diaries (1931-1957).

"Architectural Drawings, 1921-38, 322 drawings." Designs, proposals, additions and alterations to thirty-eight projects for domestic architecture, including the Hallward house (now McGill University's Martlet House) and summer country houses; public commissions such as Murray Park Shelter in Westmount and Westmount City Hall comprise the holdings of the CAC of the work of Robert and Francis R. Findlay.
"Photographs, 1922-38, 51 photographs." Seven of the Findlays' projects are documented by photographs. Included are photographs of finished interiors and exteriors of houses in Westmount as well as the Westmount City Hall.
"Professional Papers, 1928-40, 19 cm."Correspondence, specifications, clippings, pamphlets, invoices, etc., for seven projects; among them the Murray Park Shelter, the Union Twist Drill Company's building in Rock Island, PQ, and houses in Westmount, are found in the Findlay archive.

Eight projects are documented by 119 architectural drawings (1934-1964), among them designs for buildings for the Old Brewery Mission's summer camp at Lake Chapleau, PQ, alterations to St. Andrew's United Church in Westmount and alterations to Bethel United Church in Grand'Mère, QC. Eight photographs (1945-1964) show additions and alterations to the summer house of C. V. Howard at Lake Anne, QC, and alterations to the Bethel United Church. The fonds also contains professional papers dating between 1941 and 1964, including correspondence, clippings, pamphlets, receipts and invoices relating to seven projects are found in the archive. Fonds consists of architectural drawings (1961) and 2 photographs forming part of a project prepared for the United Nations for low-cost asbestos roof-tiling. A four-page application (1967) for low-cost roofing is also included. Ortega's personal library (713 cm) also comprises part of the fonds. These books and periodicals relate mainly to Ortega's professional interests such as low cost housing, building materials, water and sanitation, the environment and energy. 287 slides relate to Ortega's on-going concerns on lost-cost housing, building materials, construction methods and alternative sources of energy.
