The first part of this volume is titled "Narrative of a campaign in the Island of Ceylon in the year 1803 and of the Massacre of the greater part of the European Army by the Kandians. By the only Survivors." One part is entitled "Journal of an Expedition to Kandy in September 1804 and Retreat from there." The text is written on paper water-marked, 1831.

Collection contains a manuscript note written by a doctor at Partridge Island, dated August 21, 1833, that a Mrs. Campbell is allowed to depart from quarantine; also includes a travel document for Mrs. Campbell and two other adults sailing from Belfast to St. John, NB.

There are three letters from Lord Selkirk, one from Lord Dalhousie, and eight from Lady Selkirk. The early letters concern the Red River Settlement and the North West Company. The letter from Lord Dalhousie, 1824, concerns legal matters, and the two late letters, 1828 and 1833, from Lady Selkirk are personal in nature.

Frobisher's papers comprise a letterbook of the North-West Co. containing copies of letters written by Frobisher from April 1787 to October 1788, two original letters to Simon McTavish, 1796, and one from him, 1787, business and legal documents, largely concerning the estate of James McGill, 1810-1834, and a diary, 1806-1810, mostly a record of where he dined.
