The series is comprised of personal and appointment diaries, recording Dr. Penfield's work engagements, personal thoughts, and travels between 1904 and 1976. The series also includes two scrap books and several diaries by Dr. Penfield's wife, Helen Kermott Penfield.
Series consists of a drawer of catalogue cards with information concerning most MNI Fellows from between the institute's opening to the 1970s. Much of this information consists of mailing addresses which were compiled in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and is thus likely no longer accurate. Many of the cards are also accompanied by photographs of the particular Fellow.
The file contains the diary of Wilder Penfield for November 1975 to April 1976. The diary details the last few months before his death in April 1976. This includes reflections on love, his marriage, his health, and finishing work on No Man Alone. Penfield has gone through and corrected his grammar and spelling or has expanded upon his initial thoughts, usually in pencil or pen. After the last entry, there is a line in a different hand started but most of it is illegible.
Subseries consists of unpublished writings, including talks, addresses, articles, unfinished papers, etc. many of which are printed or published, in full or in part, in some other form and filed elsewhere. (W/U = Writings / Unpublished)
The file contains correspondence to and from Kristian Kristiansen; Clinical and Laboratory Schedules, 1975; Notes from Anne Dawson to Wilder Penfield; letters to John Bates; letters from K.A.C. Elliot; a letter from A.N. Richards, University of Pennsylvania; letters to and from William Feindel; and letters to and from Bertha Cameron.
A file of photographs, all of which are of members of Dr. Penfield's family, or are of places connected to his family. The file is labeled "Photos. Spokane Hudson." The images were taken between Dr. Penfield's birth and death (1891-1976).
