He hopes McGill will arrange for himself and for Mills to live at the College. He envies the high salaries earned by German doctors. Letter to George Ross from William Osler, Leipzig, Germany. Osler received a letter from Tyson with an unofficial offer of the Chair of Clinical Medicine in Philadelphia. Osler will likely accept if the position is offered to him, although he is worried about severing his connection with McGill and Montreal. He asks Ross to keep this information a secret. Osler will go to Montreal to assist in the opening of the new buildings of the McGill Medical School with Pepper. He has written Chadwick and Warren to urge them to organize a meeting in Boston. Osler is sorry that Bowditch's uncle was removed from the vice-presidency.

He relates news of the Francis family and of Reynolds, who he saw in Hamilton. He will go to Winnipeg by the Lakes. Osler does not think Mills will ever assimilate and thinks he should find a position away from Doctors. He comments on the Goulstonian Lectures. He mentions Ross, Gardner and Howard. Osler is interested in information on the general and special evolution of the [medical] profession.
