Salisbury

Four letters from Alice Salisbury with one letter from her husband, [Lord] Salisbury, all addressed to Noel [Buxton]. Some letters are typed copies.

Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus)

Painting of a black bird with white and red cheeks, white chest and belly, red under tail, and lighter black tail feathers. Bird is perched on thin branch with a few leaves. Inscription at bottom centre reads, "Bengal red-whiskered bulbul (Otocompsa emeria)."

White-browed Bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus)

Small brown bird with white eye patch, tan-yellow belly, and whiskers on face and head. Tail is slightly darker brown. Bird is perched on branch with some foliage. Lightly pencilled (illegible) identification of bird, with heavily pencilled "Muscicapa" inscribed in lower right corner.

Letterbook

File contains 1 bound volume consisting of copies of correspondence written by Joseph Frobisher while he held an important role in the North West Co. from 15th April 1787 to 20th October 1788. All letters written from Montreal and sent to various business relations.

Ledger, 1830s

Consists of a manuscript ledger in limp, hand-cut and sewn leather binding. The records provide evidence as to Curtis's business expenditures (for example, purchase of animal skins presumably for tanning, such as sheepskin and calfskin) and household expenditures. Many entries provide evidence of barter culture. «
