The archive reflects the breadth and depth of Schoenauer's involvement with architecture, housing and planning in Canada; his profound commitment to teaching; and his labours as an author of a fundamental, and far-ranging text on housing as a sine qua non of civilized existence.

The archives contains at this time an estimated 20 000 plans and drawings, 600 presentation boards, 500 loose sketches, 60 sketchbooks, 600 boxes of projects and office files, 80 models, 200 computer diskettes, and a representative collection of slides, photographic prints, audio-visual material, as well as a bibliographic file of primary and secondary literature. Materials are in the process of being accessioned and described.

Le fonds contient présentement environ 20 000 plans et dessins, 600 panneaux de présentation, 500 croquis, 60 carnets de croquis, 600 boîtes de dossiers de projets et de bureau, 80 maquettes, 200 disquettes d'ordinateur, une collection de diapositives représentative de son oeuvre, des photographies, du matériel audio-visuel et des dossiers bibliographiques de sources primaires et secondaires. Le matériel est en train d'être dépouillé mais n'a pas encore été décrit.

The fonds consists of professional papers, architectural and silver artifact photographs, drawings, teaching materials, research files on historical buildings in Québec, and heraldry designs for Boy Scouts. The bulk of the fonds consists of professional papers and three-dimensional objects (1889-1949). These have been arranged into twelve categories based on function: notes by Traquair for architecture curriculum courses; personal items of Traquair; signed notes of Gordon Antoine Neilson; signed notes of Marius Barbeau; Boy Scouts' flag design and correspondence; drawer list of drawings of French-Canadian architecture as arranged by Traquair; source clippings/publications; student sketchbooks; historic notes on individual places; publications of Traquair; publications by others working in the field or allied fields; line blocks. 14 original drawings in the fonds date from 1901-1921 and include watercolours and drawings of Egypt and India as well as details and sketches of churches in England and Italy. There are also approximately 550 measured drawings of historic buildings in Montréal, Québec City and elsewhere in the province made by Traquair and his students. Approximately 5 m of photographs portray landscapes, historical buildings, furnishings, and rural people at work in Québec; some copies of historical prints and photographs are also included. The historical architecture of Québec is also the subject of 1 m of plastic negatives, and a further 40 cm shows old Québec silverware.

The majority of the drawings concern the design for a master plan for the Forillon National Park in Gaspé, PQ (1970); other drawings document the design for a house for John Bland, Jr, in Ste. Anne-de-Bellevue (1976), offices for Bell Northern Research in Ottawa (1975-81) and a library for the University of Windsor (1971).
"Professional Papers, 1970-7, 9 cm." Papers relating to the master plan for the Forillon National Park and a feasibility study for proposed modifications to the property of J. W. McConnell (1977) are found in the CAC.

Four projects include drawings, the majority document the design for offices and laboratories for the Bell Northern Research Company in Ottawa (1971-2); other drawings concern a proposal for the Canadian Chancery Building in Accra, Ghana (1969), a proposal for the Government of Canada's official residence in Dakar, Senegal (1970) and a new entrance to Redpath Hall, McGill University (1968).

"Professional Papers, 1970, 6 cm." A project for the campus of the University of Windsor contains a planning report and a proposed extension to the Faculty Club of McGill University also contains a report.

"Architectural Drawings, 1962- 7, 389 drawings." Included among the eleven projects with drawings are designs for a law building at McGill University (1963-4), the Labyrinth for the National Film Board of Canada intended for Expo '67 (1964-7), the British Pavilion for Expo '67 (designed in 1966 by the British firm of Basil Spence Bonnington and Collins - Bland, LeMoyne, Edwards, Shine acted as consulting architects), a research and development laboratory for the Northern Electric Company in Ottawa (1964), and St. Mary's Church in Kirkland, PQ (1965).
"Photographs, 1962-9, 18 photographs." An art gallery for Expo '67 (1966), laboratories and dormitories for McGill University at Mount St. Hilaire, PQ (1962-3) and a building for the Faculty of Law at McGill University, are examples of some of the seven projects with photographs.
"Professional Papers, 1962-9, 33 cm." The majority of the papers are reports concerning the Colline parlementaire for the City of Québec (1966-9), also included are schedules for the proposed laboratories and dormitories for McGill University at Mount St. Hilaire.

Twelve projects contain drawings, among them the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (1962-5), a shopping centre in Kingston, ON (n.d.), a pharmaceutical centre and research laboratory for the Smith, Mine and French company in Senneville, PQ (n.d.), and the design of two residential houses in Montreal.
"Photographs, 1961-5, 84 photographs." A proposal for a master plan and municipal building in Baie d'Urfé, PQ (1962/3), a site planning study for McGill University (1961), a redevelopment scheme for Westmount (n.d.), and the Kingston shopping centre are among the six projects documented by photographs.
"Professional papers, 1960-3, 24 cm." The archive contains papers, primarily reports and specifications, for six projects, including the proposed master plan and municipal building for Baie d'Urfé, the development study for McGill University and a maintenance building for Les Habitations Jeanne-Mance in Montreal (1963).
