Tour in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, in 1796 and 1797 : volume the fourth.

Fourth volume of Forbes's manuscript travel journal. This volume contains entries on various sites in Rome, including the Villa Borghese, St. Peter's, the Villa Albani, the Church of St. Agnes, the Mausoleum of Constantia, the Baths of Caracalla, St. Sebastian, the Catacombs, the Aventine Hill, the Vatican, the Esquiline Hill, and the Spada Palace, written during November and December 1796. Entries also describe a December 1979 trip to Naples. Manuscript is written on laid paper, bound in half leather with marbled covered boards.

Largely illegible – writing is hurried and emphatic. Description of “coup de sabre”, “tout vas et tout ira”, “les resultats de votre campagne (…) être mauvais” and “persévérer” (bold and underlined). Mention of “Louis” and relation to “l’argent mais qu’il n’en a pas voulu.”

File consists of handwritten manuscript document summarizing research undertaken in relation to sale and purchase of the Montreal Gazette newspaper, including details on meetings with various professionals associated with the newspaper industry, including a journalist for the New York Morning Herald and owner of the New York Albion (John S. Bartlett).

Letters and postcards on life of Simon McTavish

Letters and post cards comprising incoming and outgoing correspondence with Baylis covering such topics as Baylis's lecture at the Montreal St. James Literary Society on the topic of Simon McTavish (20th February 1923) and pleads for and estimated cost associated with the restoration of the McTavish monument and plot.

Among the correspondence is also an excerpt from the 20th February 1923 minutes of the St. James Literary Society where it is resolved to submit demands to the Historic Sites Commission to assume the repairs of the McTavish monument and tomb.

File contains 1 document outlining the financial responsibilities of each partner of the North West Company from 1804 to 1813, the problems of bill exchanges in England during and after the War of 1812, and the financial disputes which occurred after the absorption of the NWC into the Hudson's Bay Company.
