Andreassen's papers fall into three series: personal materials, diaries, and professional files. Personal materials include family correspondence, 1929-ca 1932, and ca 30 cm of class notes and draft papers stemming from his student years, largely at Louisiana State. There are also files of private correspondence, some addressed to Mrs Andreassen, from the period 1975-1980. Andreassen's diaries cover the years 1936-1940, 1945-1952, 1962-1965, and 1968-1976. They record the working day and are interleaved with memoranda and correspondence, often of a personal nature. Professional files vary in nature with each stage of Andreassen's career, but correspondence and reports are consistent elements. To these may be added copies of surveys and inventories of the Louisiana Historical Records Survey, expense accounts and photographs arising from his work for UNRRA, records of archival deposits and drafts on an institutional history prepared as Archivist of CNR, and annual reports written as McGill Archivist.

The archives of the St. James Literary Society are divided evenly between administrative records and copies of addresses. Administrative records include minutes, 1899-1977, attendence registers, 1904-1969, correspondence, ca 1946-1964, and financial accounts, 1938-1966. Supplementing these are programmes, syllabi, and records of the Society's annual dinner, as well as newsclippings on the Society's members and activities, 1899-1978. Addresses to the Society are preserved in manuscript, typescript or audio-tape form, and are indexed by subject and speaker.

The fonds reflects the Company’s involvement in the construction of buildings utilizing cement across Canada and comprises original photographs and some negatives of buildings. The photographs document construction over a wide range of time, geography and type of structure. The fonds reflects technical evolution of the use of cement construction, as well as the architectural evolution in Montreal and many of its public buildings. The major part of the photographs are of buildings completed by Canada Cement, and only a small number of the prints show the early factories and the equipment. Although the collection documents the company’s projects across Canada, about one third of the collection relates to Quebec and Montreal. Included in the fonds is one 16mm film "Concrete's Finest 50 Years".

This collection consists of 2 main subjects, arranged in 3 series: the first subject, structural projects involving Canada Cement and Canada Cement Lafarge, is divided into a Type of Building Series (subdivided by region) and a Regional Series (subdivided by type of building). The second subject, Canada Cement's own factories and its Montreal head office, is contained in a smaller Plant Series.

The fonds reflects the body’s social work activities including logs of case studies (1901-1932), correspondence with government agencies regarding deportation orders, especially between 1901 and 1932, as well as correspondence with the Red Cross Emergency Relief Committee concerning survivors of the Titanic disaster (1913-1916) and newspaper clippings about the disaster (1980). There are copies of Family Welfare Bulletins (1942-1945), reports about professional ethics for social workers (1937) and a description of the Belvedere Residence (1946-1953).

The Grierson Collection was assembled by the Communications Department, McGill University, by soliciting, from a variety of sources, documentation on Grierson himself, on the institutions for which he worked (particularly the National Film Board of Canada), and on the history of documentary film. The core of the collection is from the Film Board, and consists of audio-visual production materials for films on Grierson and related topics; supplementing this are collections of documentation, and some personal papers (correspondence, notebooks, speeches), mostly obtained from associates of Grierson.

Fonds consists of papers (originals and printed materials) falling into three series: speeches; files relating to McGill committees before Ross was Chancellor; and personal and biographical materials.

Apart from formal speeches delivered as Chancellor at the opening of buildings and convocations, Ross's addresses and articles reveal his interest in professional development and research in accountancy and questions of national economic policy. These were written for, or delivered to McGill conferences, meetings of professional organizations of chartered accountants, financial analysts and business executives.

Files on McGill committees contain minutes of the Committee on Fraternities (1959-1962) and of the Committee on Chartered Accountants at McGill (1950-1951).

Ross's biographical files contain degrees and certificates (1927-1977), programmes and other memorabilia from Oxford (ca 1930-1932), news clippings about Ross (ca 1963-1968) and a few items of personal correspondence (1964-1974). His trip to Russia is documented by correspondence, notes and printed materials (1967-1969), and he wrote formal accounts of his journeys to South America and the Far East. A personal financial account book covers the years 1964-1969. These materials are supplemented by obituary clippings and letters about Ross written to his wife after his death (1974-1979).

Fonds consists primarily of originals and printed materials concerning courses Coughlin taught in the Library School (1952-1979), and her own graduate studies and research (1958-1975). Her teaching materials comprise lecture notes, supplemented by clippings, articles, and bibliographies, for courses on book selection (including class lists, marks (restricted), a student project and examinations), research methods, and library work with children. Material stemming from her graduate studies comprises two papers submitted for her M.A., and two unrevised copies of her D.L.S. thesis on Canadian public library services. Her continuing interest in public libraries in Canada generated a series of research files of notes, photocopies and clippings (1961-1975).

The Alexander Wright fonds contains student notes, mostly for McGill history courses between 1976-1980 but also includes notes for 3 French language history courses and 1 political science course.
