All goes on here much as usual. Mentions Davison and Penfield. Comments on the case of the daughter of the Baldwins. B. gave the Herbert Spencer lecture. Glad it was him. Revere is home waiting his transfer to the British Army. Things look hopeful. The French are doing splendidly and England is in fine form. Wishes to choke some of the politicians and editors. They have started a big Army Heart Hospital. Allbutt, McKenzie and he have had the selection of the staff and are in control as active consultants. There will be four services, Lewis, Parkinson, Meakins and they would like to get Fraser for the fourth. Mentions cases. Typhoid has slumped, very few cases of dysentery. Nephritis persists. Explains that Cordell at the Historical Society's room showed him a Crawford paper, Ballemore Obsewer 1906-09, the malaria. Things have been quieter. He had a nice week at the American Hospital in Paignton. Revere is at Cliveden and will join the McGill Unit with Birkett, Francis and Campbell Howard at the end of the month. They are seeing interesting cases at the new Heart Hospital at Hampstead. The Vaso-motor skin reactions are remarkable. Comments on the vagotonic symptom complex of the Germans, which is an old friend with a new face and name. Comments on the Verdun battle which looks hopeful but it is a slow job. Zeppelins are stirring the people. It is a useless slaughter of civilians. Civilities. P.S. The Baldwins' daughter is not out of danger yet.

Informs him that there is a movement on foot to erect a monument to the memory of Celli in Rome. He has written to Brock that he was sure that Thayer and his other admirers in the USA would be glad to help. Mentions that it would be nice to get half-a dozen subscriptions from the USA. They spent a delightful week at Torquay. He saw the American Hospital, and many chest cases of interest. Things are going well. Expects Sue Chapin tomorrow but are worried about the submarines. The Examination Schools have been transformed into a hospital ready for 480 patients. Comments on the climate in England. Sorry that he had been operated. He has written to Hurd and to Smith. Has tried to find Welch who is on the Continent.
