Slide presentations

Subseries C consists of side-transparencies. The slide-transparencies subseries C are distinct from the loose and eclectically gathered slide-transparencies in "Series 3 subseries B photographs and slides". The slide-transparencies that have been cataloged in Subseries C are labeled by project and have been placed in slide containment boxes or carousel wheels in a meticulous order by Harold Spence-Sales.

The images in the slide-transparencies are primarily of aerial photographs and geographical areas.

Reports

Subseries B consists of reports. The reports in subseries B were often written by Harold Spence-Sales sometimes in collaboration with colleagues and urban planning professionals in order to document the steps required to bring an urban development project to life.

The reports discuss geography, sediment analysis, statistics, safety, logistics, environmental concerns, engineering and other topics that need to be considered in order to bring urban-architectural development projects from the idea and preparation phases to reality.

Financial and administrative

Subseries A consists of financial records that pertain to Harold Spence-Sales professional activities; contracts, estimations for projects, service fees, business expenses, grants and business statements.

Subseries A also contains of records that are of an administrative nature that are unrelated to financial expenses but are related to professional responsibilities. Administrative records contain publicity materials, research, correspondence and various kinds reports that were sent to Harold Spence-Sales throughout the course of his work as an urban planner that he may not have directly contributed to.

Models

Subseries F consists of models that Harold Spence-Sales used for project development and presentations.

Other planning materials

Subseries E consists primarily of records that Harold Spence-Sales used to work on personal or profession projects that have not been identified. There is one project in subseries E that has been well documented; the 1107 W. 7th Avenue Vancouver project.

1107 W. 7th Avenue Vancouver was Harold Spence-Sales and Mary Filers home and personal art studios.

Plans, drawings and blueprint

Subseries D consists of plans, drawings and blueprints that Harold Spence Sales used for personal or professional projects, but they have not been identified.

Maps

Subseries C consists of maps that Harold Spence-Sales used to work on urban development projects but the ventures have not been identified. The cartographic materials in subseries C are comprised of printed and hand drawn maps.

Photographs and slides

Subseries B consists of records that are graphic in nature; primarily slide-transparencies, photographs and negatives.

The photographic materials within subseries B are primarily aerial photographs and photographs of landscapes, land formations and geographical features. Harold Spence-Sales likely used the photographs to help him understand the geographic areas for the urban development projects that he worked on.

Project files

Subseries A consists of records related to projects that Harold Spence-Sales worked on as an urban planner and consultant. The files in subseries A contains records that are created and used while an urban planner works on urban development projects.

General

Subseries E consists of other records that document Harold Spence-Sales professional relationships outside of work that are miscellaneous in nature and primarily relate to friends and colleagues in the field of architecture and urban planning.

Subseries E also contains six of Moshe Safdies binders. The binders are indexes of materials and supplies that Safdie used while working on projects. The binders also provide lists of where the records that Safdie created while working on projects is located. (Files 006-011).
