Oxford University. Letters Patent of Edward VII, dated 10 Oct., 4th year (1904) appointing William Osler Regius Professor of Medicine ("Reader in the Science and Faculty of Physic for the use and improvement of the Youth in Our University of Oxford"), with great seal of Victoria attached. MS. on paper, written in 1904.
File consists of manuscripts by Osler: "Johns Hopkins Hospital : inner History of early organization" and an autobiographical yearbook for the years 1898, 1901-1916. In a dummy book, inside a black cover with silver lock and broken seal. Later annotations by W. P. and W. W. Francis.
Royal Letters Patent, creating William Osler Baronet: 11 July, second year George V (1911); with great seal Edward VIII attached, endorsed by the College of Arms, and bearing a hundred pound revenue stamp. MS in English on paper.
The Sir William Osler Collection, distinct from the Bibliotheca, is an extensive archival holding of Osler's correspondence (including eighteen hundred original letters), daybooks, accounts, engagement books, legal documents, book invoices, membership certificates, notebooks, lectures, addresses, newspaper clippings, photographs, books with manuscript additions, and miscellaneous loose items formerly inserted into individual books in his library. The collection also contains various family papers, including correspondence of Lady Grace Revere Osler and Edward Revere Osler.
