    Biographical history

    American songwriter and composer Steve Dorff was born in New York and obtained a degree in journalism at the University of Georgia in 1971. Throughout his career he mainly composed country-style music. He wrote over 1000 songs, 20 of which were Top 10 pop and country hits sung by stars like Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Anne Murray, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Judy Collins, Cher, Dusty Springfield, Ringo Starr, Garth Brooks, and Kenny Rogers. The prolific composer also created some 20 film soundtracks, and themes for numerous television shows like Murphy Brown and Growing Pains. He has been nominated three times for Grammy, six times for Emmys and has received 40 BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) awards. He also collaborated with lyricist John Bettis on the musical “Josephine,” the story of Josephine Baker that premiered n Sarasota in 2016. In 2018 he was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.
