Scope and content

The primary emphasis of Stephen Morrissey’s correspondence is literary; however, family, friends, and business correspondence is also included. The letters in this accrual were written between 1963 and 2003. The scope of the correspondence is national and international and includes both incoming and carbon copies of outgoing letters. Correspondence in the form of emails begins around 1998. The correspondence is comprehensive and scholars can, in most cases, read the complete exchange of a specific correspondence.

Arrangement

The correspondence series is arranged into two subseries for literary correspondence and personal correspondence. Files are organized alphabetically. Each folder is notated with the following information: whether it is incoming or outgoing correspondence; the name of the correspondent; the year(s) in which the correspondence was conducted. Email correspondence is notated only with the name of the person being corresponded with, the year of the correspondence, and in most cases incoming and outgoing correspondence is contained in the same file. This correspondence was sorted, filed, and organized by Stephen Morrissey in 2002-2005.
