1 illustration (hand-coloured cut-and-paste etching): colour (watercolour); 35.5 x 29.2 cm
Item consists of a colour illustration of a small bird (possibly a sunbird) poised on a branch with red, five-petalled flowers next to a butterfly in flight. Figures have been cut out and pasted on leaf.
Current binomial(s): (Charadriiformes: Recurvirostridae)
Possibly from the same source as the previous. Bird may be a myna. Two sorts of leaves shown here, hole deliberately cut in one. The plant (Wintersweet or Japanese allspice (Chimonanthus praecox)) is from Pierre Joseph Buchoz, Precious and illuminated collection of the most beautiful and curious flowers, grown both in the gardens of China and in those of Europe (Paris, 1776).
