Bertha (Biddy) Meyer was born on October 12, 1899, in Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec.
She was a Canadian educator and author. In 1920, she earned her M.A. degree from McGill University with a thesis on the German writer Theodor Fontane. She chose to study the German language due to her German background and a natural affinity for the language. After graduating, she began teaching German full-time in McGill University's German Department.
During the 1962-63 academic year, Professor Meyer served as the chair of the department. During World War II, she taught German scripts to Canadian government agents who were to work as censors. She published numerous articles and studies on German-Jewish writers and women of the Romantic period.
She died unmarried on December 22, 1980, in Montreal, Quebec.
The collection consists of a typescript of the author's book "Salon sketches" and a copy of the 1938 edition titled "Salon sketches: biographical studies of Berlin salons of the emancipation," published by Bloch Publishing Company in New York.
