Biographical history

Edgar Andrew Collard, CM (6 September 1911-9 September 2000); Canadian journalist and historian, best known for his Montreal Gazette column; born in Montreal, Quebec; received his M.A. in history from McGill University in 1937; first issue of his column "All Our Yesterdays" appeared in The Montreal Gazette on August 14, 1944, and appeared every weekend until August 2000, with each column addressing an episode or aspect of Montreal history; editor-in-chief of The Gazette from 1953 to 1971; married the historian Elizabeth Collard; won the National Newspaper Award for editorial writing four times; made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1976
