Winning design for a competition to create a public space on the historic site of Champs de Mars, adjacent to City Hall and the Palais de Justice. The site had been a parking lot for some seventy years. The design envisioned a "palimpsest" combining elements of two historic incarnations: integration of the remains of the historic city wall of Montreal in place until 1809, and a great lawn recalling the 19th century parade ground enframed with a double row of crabapple "sentinel" trees. The project was realized by the City of Montreal, integrating some modifications designed by City landscape architects, for the 350th Anniversary of Montreal in 1992.
