Baylis, Samuel Mathewson, 1845-1941
Samuel Matthewson Baylis was born on September 3, 1854, in Montreal, and died in 1941. He was the son of James Baylis and Sarah Jane Matthewson. On October 2, 1882, Baylis married Hilda Emily Adams and they had one son and three daughters. Baylis attended the Montreal High School and worked as a merchant with his father in James Baylis & Son, Carpets, and Company. He was also an author, his most known work was a prose monograph titled Shake-Speare: An Enquiry, published in 1910.

Bayne, Herbert A. (Herbert Andrew), 1846-1886
Herbert Andrew Bayne was born on August 16, 1846, in Great Village, Colchester County, Nova Scotia.
He was an educator and scientist. He studied at Pictou Academy, and in 1869, received the degree of B.A. at Dalhousie College in Halifax. He became a Principal of Pictou Academy, focussing on the science classes. He continued his studies in chemistry in Heidelberg, Germany, and in 1877, he graduated with a degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Upon his return to Canada, he became headmaster of the Halifax High School and lecturer on chemistry at Dalhousie College. In 1879, he was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the Royal Military College at Kingston, Ontario. He was also made one of the original Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada.
In 1882, he married Anne Primrose Stirling. He died on September 16, 1886, in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
Reverend James Bayne was a Presbyterian clergyman, who wrote in support of Sir William Dawson's candidacy for the Chair of natural history at University of Edinburgh.
