        Rev. Edward Fraser Torrance was born on September 12, 1852, in Montreal, Quebec.

        He was a clergyman. He graduated from McGill University (M.A., 1874). He was ordained in 1876 and served as Minister of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Peterborough from 1876 to 1907. He also served on the Board of the Presbyterian Church of Canada.

        In 1899, he married Helen Grant Dennistoun (1873–1964). He died on July 12, 1925, in Kingston, Ontario.
