        History

        Rev. Dr. John Schulte was born c. 1826 in Germany.

        He was a clergyman and educator. He studied for the Roman Catholic priesthood at the College of Propaganda (Pontificio Collegio Urbano de Propaganda Fide) in Rome. He moved to Nova Scotia to take charge of a Roman Catholic mission and was converted to Protestantism. From 1864 to 1867, he was rector of the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Kitchener, Ontario, and from 1867 to 1878, he served as the rector of Trinity Church, Vienna, Ontario. In 1878, he was appointed to the rectory of Christieville in the Diocese of Montreal, Quebec. In 1881, Schulte resigned his professorship at Huron College, London, Ontario, and was appointed an Anglican Missionary in Aldborough Township, Elgin County, Ontario. Schulte served as an examiner at the University of Toronto and was a professor of German at Alma College (1885-1895), St. Thomas, Ontario. He was the author of many books and pamphlets.

        In 1863, he married Margaret McKinney MacKenzie (1843–1865), and he married Ellinor Elizabeth Moore (1849-1928). He died on December 15, 1895, in St. Thomas, Elgin, Ontario.
